Brewing Up a Legacy: An English Introduction to the History of Coffee

The history of coffee is as rich and diverse as its flavors. From its origins in Ethiopia to its global spread today, coffee has been an integral part of human culture for centuries. The word "coffee" itself comes from the Arabic term "qahwa," which referred to a wine-like beverage made from roasted beans.

In the 15th century, coffee was first consumed in the Arabian Peninsula, where it quickly gained popularity due to its energizing effects. Sufi mystics were known to use coffee as a means of spiritual enlightenment, and soon it became a staple at social gatherings and religious ceremonies.
