Espresso, a concentrated coffee beverage that originated in Italy, has become an integral part of modern life. It is more than just a drink; it is a symbol of culture, tradition and lifestyle. This article will explore the history of espresso and its role in globalisation.

Firstly, let us delve into the history of espresso. The first recorded use of espresso was by Angelo Moriondo from Turin in 1884. He used steam to force pressurised hot water through finely ground coffee beans to create a concentrated beverage. However, his invention did not gain popularity until the early 20th century when Luigi Bezzera improved upon Moriondo's design with his own machine.

The modern espresso machine was invented by Gaggia in 1948 and revolutionized the way people consumed coffee. The machine used steam pressure to force hot water through finely ground coffee beans at high temperatures and pressures resulting in a thick layer of crema on top.

Now we come to the cultural significance of espresso within Italian society. In Italy, it is common for friends or family members to meet up at cafes for social gatherings called "cappuccino breaks". These breaks are not only about drinking but also about catching up with one another while enjoying good company over good food.

Italians have an inherent love for their coffee culture which reflects their passion for life itself - rich experiences filled with beauty and joy as well as simplicity & elegance that permeates every aspect including fashion & architecture amongst others so much like how they enjoy sipping on their favorite cuppa joe!
